Festival gets into full swing as Washington celebrates spring in a big way.
The earliest recorded blooming of these famous trees surrounding the Tidal Basin
was March 15th in 1990, the normal prime flowering date is around April 5th but
has been recorded as late as April 18th in 1958. The Festivities carry on throughout
much of this same three to four week time frame and includes Sakura Matsuri Japanese
Street Festival, a parade, tea ceremonies, A Grand Sushi and Saki Tasting, a festival
beauty pageant, performances, cultural exhibits, sports events and the Smithsonian
Kite Festival. |

The National Cherry Blossom Festival gets into full swing as Washington
celebrates spring in a big way. The earliest recorded blooming of these famous
trees surrounding the Tidal Basin was March 15th in 1990, the normal prime flowering
date is around April 5th but has been recorded as late as April 18th in 1958.
The Festivities carry on throughout much of this same three to four week time
frame and includes Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival, a parade, tea ceremonies,
A Grand Sushi and Saki Tasting, a festival beauty pageant, performances, cultural
exhibits, sports events and the Smithsonian Kite Festival. |
