As the seat of the federal Government, Washington
D.C. has many governmental
buildings that are open to tours or may
be of interest to its citizenry. Here are some
of the most interesting and important buildings
and sites in surrounding areas that may appeal
to visitors. Please note buildings are usually
opened Monday through Fridays unless otherwise
specified. Government and national holiday
closures may vary, call specific sites for
scheduling information.
NASA- Goddard
Visitors Center - off I-95 at exit 22A / Greenbelt
MD / 301-286-8981 The center contains space-craft
and memorabilia from America's space program.
Model rocket launches take place on
first and third Sundays of the month at 1 pm.

Arlington National Cemetery
- across the Potomac from The Mall / Arlington

Fort Belvoir
- Begun in 1741 as a personal estate, Belvoir
became a training camp and fort around World
War I. The fort houses many command centers
for the U.S. Army, including the Defense Mapping
School, Intelligence and Security Command and
the Army Management Staff College, among others.

The Pentagon
- One of the largest office buildings in the
world, this distinctive five-sided structure
covers 29 acres, with over 17 miles of hallways
and a 5-acre courtyard in the middle of the
building. Housing the branches of the Department
of Defense, tours are offered Monday through
Friday, limited to 30 people per hour. Photo

Quantico -
One of the country's largest Marine Bases and
site of the U. S. Marine Corps Combat Development
Command, the Quantico National Cemetery and
